eBay must pay 40 mil. € to LVMH group
A french commercial court decided that eBay must pay 40 million €; as compensation to a group called LVMH which sells luxury products.
LVMH says that eBay France didn’t do much to stop the selling of counterfeit products on their website, like purses, perfumes and others. This decision comes after another in which eBay had to pay € 20.000 to another french company named Hermes.
Brands like Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior and Givenchy were directly affected.
eBay was accused of not taking any measures when auctions with fake LVMH products were posted. LVMH also mentioned that the auctions where original products were sold were illegal too, because only specialized dealers have the right to sell.
eBay must now pay 19.28 mil. € to Luis Vuitton Malletier, 17.3 mil. € to Christiathn Dior Couture and 3.25 mil. € to other perfume brands.
Personally, I think that eBay is not responsible for these auctions. Instead, the sellers should be judged. But LVMH just wants some big cash and they want it from eBay ’cause they are the big flesh.
